Hi, I'm Esther writing this. Towards the end of 2021 I realised that I enjoy the creativity of cake decorating and wanted to improve my skills with fondant as I saw my limitations when making a birthday cake with a "rocket" for his birthday. In time, I took classes to help me with figurines and basics in cake decorating.
A sweet spot: service to help save time and energy while being creative
I baked for two friends of mine in 2021, both mothers. The one needed time and the other needed energy to bake. I then realised that I could combine my enjoyment of baking with providing a service to others. After announcing to friends and family that I wanted to start a small business, I received much encouragement from them and was introduced to the Philosophy of Yum page, which has also been an encouragement.
Starting small
I'm a wife and mother to two children under the age of 5. My daughter is not yet at preschool. When thinking through the idea of the business, I soon realised that for this to work, starting small would be necessary to keep the business going.
