Why serve cake?

Why would a person choose to serve cake when hosting an event?

-cake is art and appeals to some of the senses, to provide a decadent experience:

-visually: the cake is part of setting the tone for the event and forms part of the décor: the handcrafted flowers/toppers and decorating work

-the experience of tasting good cake (flavour and texture) is part of the entertainment you are offering

-the cake thus becomes part of the good memory of the event as it is part of the event
